Hello Summit Family!
Job 38 & 42:1-5
Have you ever heard of a “God wink”? In the past few weeks, a sweet friend, my Mom, and others have used this phrase. This phrase has brought memories of my Grandparents freshly flooding into my mind and heart. My Grandparents love for the Lord was and is a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness in my life. They suffered many hardships, such as divorce, loss of infants, and financial strain, that might lead one to question God’s plans. Yet, when I visited my grandparents, I regularly saw their Bibles opened, enjoyed going to church with them, and appreciated watching revivals with them on the TV. Daily, I witnessed their struggles yet transparency as believers. Certain songs, scriptures, smells, surroundings will take me back to those days. I sense the whispers of their prayers. Their faithfulness in the face of adversity and those memories of their faithfulness in the form of God winks bring comfort and a smile to my face! Through these God winks, I am also reminded of Job.
Job 42:1- 2
“Then Job replies to the Lord: I know you can do all things; no plan of yours can be thwarted.”
During these past months, I am comforted as I am reminded that God is in control. Although circumstances of the world may seem unbearable, God is gracious to us in sharing the final chapter! Why? So that we could align ourselves with Him and the truth of His word. He is victorious! Therefore, as believers, we will also share in His victory!
We learn of all the lamenting in Job regarding the difficulty of earthly life, but when God speaks in Chapter 38, we are reminded of the vast, profound, and unfathomable nature of God’s plans:
4 “Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?”
12 “Have you ever given orders to the morning, or shown the dawn its place, that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it?”
Though it escapes my earthly scope, I am ready for the wickedness to be shaken and am holding steadfast to God’s plans. In the meantime, my prayer and earthly work is that my heart and mind might be prepared and ready! Ready at any moment to share the hope I have in Christ Jesus.
In these days, where we are beginning to return to some of our day-to-day routines, it is exciting and feels great to have a sense of normal; however, we must stay focused on the purpose God has for us! May our relationship with the Lord continue to grow and may our love for all of God’s creation be demonstrated in our actions towards others. May we as the CHURCH be a light of hope to our world! May we pay attention to those God winks that are sent our way. Jesus is the answer!
